Frequently asked questions

Is Waidrn free?

Yes. Reading is free, publishing is free, and the platform takes no fee on gifts, pledges or settlements. There is no paywall and no ad product against hosted work.

Are the stories, boards and accounts real?

Waidrn ships with a demo world: original stories, board threads and example quests written for the site so that visitors can see a populated place. Every row of demo content is labelled demo content on the page and in the API. Demo accounts on the public site are read-only or disabled; they are not real members and cannot act. Actual members' work is not labelled demo, and the label is the honest way to tell the difference.

What is WAID, and is it real money?

WAID is a simulated coin for patronage mechanics inside Waidrn. It is not real money, not a security, not an investment, and cannot be withdrawn or exchanged for real currency. New accounts get $100.00 of simulated USD (demo dollars) to explore the 1:1 buy/sell rail. The wallet states clearly that this is a simulation. The Lexicon defines every term we use.

What is "power"? Why did a post get truncated?

Every board post, chapter and quest proposal carries power: WAID staked to it. Power pays rent for storage (1 spark per UTF-8 byte per day) and decays. At zero, the post enters a 7-day grace period — the content is truncated but recoverable — and if nobody tops it up, it is pruned: the body is deleted and a tombstone remains. Comments do not decay. Likes are free. This is how the community keeps storage honest and lets patrons keep what they love alive.

How do gifts work?

Every post has an author-share percentage (0–100%, default 50%). A gift is split by that rule: the author's share goes straight to the author's spendable balance; the rest becomes post power. The split is shown publicly on the post.

What are the two balances (account and loaned)?

Account is spendable and sellable — it is what you bought or earned. Loaned comes from the simulated mint and can only fund power for your own posts; it cannot be gifted, pledged or sold. This is by design: one balance is capital, the other is work credit.

Why do I need WAID to publish?

Publishing a board post, chapter or quest proposal needs a minimum power deposit (0.10 WAID). It is revenue-neutral in spirit: the coins stay attached to your content until rent consumes them. You can buy WAID 1:1 with simulated USD in your wallet, or solve a simulated mint puzzle to earn loaned WAID.

How do community projects work?

A requester writes a quest with literal terms and a minimum funding target. Patrons back the pool. A creator claims it when the pool is funded and proposes milestones with payout percentages. Backers vote STAY or LEAVE; if enough stay, the project becomes active. At each delivered milestone, patrons vote again: those who stay pay the creator the milestone's payout percentage; those who leave are refunded their remaining stake. When the project completes, leftovers are refunded and a public receipt is published. Abstaining counts as STAY.

What happens if the creator disappears?

If a milestone delivery date is missed or the creator abandons, the project stalls and all remaining funds are returned to patrons. The public deliverables stay public so anyone can fork the quest and carry it forward. The platform does not take the creator's side — it takes yours.

How do I report something?

Use the Report link on any post, thread, work, comment or project. Reports go to the moderation queue. Moderators can hide, tombstone, lock and suspend, and every action is audited. How reports are triaged, decided and appealed is documented on the Moderation page.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Both live in Settings → Account: Export account data downloads a JSON file of your account and content metadata, and Delete account performs a soft delete. Your content becomes attributed to [deleted user]; if you need hosted text removed entirely, write to support@waidrn.com (see Contact). Ledger entries, receipts and moderation records are retained as the system's permanent record, as the Privacy Policy explains.

Is my email address public?

No. Your email is used for sign-in, account security and the notifications you choose to receive. It is never shown on your profile or in your works, and other members cannot search for you by it.

Do I need to verify my email address?

Yes. Waidrn verifies accounts by email. You can browse and read as soon as you register, but until you verify your address you cannot post on the boards, publish a work, back or claim a project, or mint WAID. Verification is a single click on the link we send when you register. If you change your email address, we ask you to confirm the new address the same way.

How do I reset my password?

Open the sign-in page and choose Forgot password. We send a single-use reset link to the address on your account; the link expires quickly and can only be used once. For privacy, the form gives the same response whether or not an account exists for that address. After a successful reset, every existing session is signed out and we email you a confirmation.

Will Waidrn email me?

About your account and about activity you ask to be told about: replies and comments on your posts, kudos and follows, project milestones and votes, password changes and other security notices. Choose which activity emails you receive in Settings → Notifications. Every activity email has a one-click unsubscribe for that kind of email. There is no marketing email, no newsletter, and we do not sell or share your address.

I did not get the email. What now?

Waidrn sends its own account email, but public delivery from the wider internet depends on the operator finishing the mail DNS configuration for waidrn.com. Until that is complete a message can be delayed or bounce — this is a known launch-stage limitation, not something you did wrong. If an email has not arrived after a few minutes:

  1. Check your spam or junk folder and any mail filters, and add waidrn.com to your allowed senders.
  2. Use Resend on the verification screen, or start Forgot password again — some accounts need a second request before the first message lands.
  3. If it still does not arrive, write to support@waidrn.com with your username and which message you expected, or use the Contact page. We will help you get verified. We will never ask for your password by email.

Where do I ask for help?

Start with the Contact page: it lists the monitored channels for account support, moderation appeals, copyright notices and security reports, and says honestly which of them are reachable while the launch mail configuration is being finished. For content problems, the in-app Report button is always the fastest route.
