How Waidrn is funded — and why there is no paywall

The promise

Everything posted on Waidrn stays free to read. No paywalls, no exclusive seasons, no gated chapters, no ads sold against your work, no platform fee. The archive is built on a free-access commitment: readers never pay to read hosted work, and creators never pay to be hosted.

What WAID is

WAID is a simulated coin used to run the community's patronage mechanics:

None of this is a real currency. There is no blockchain, no exchange to real money, no KYC, no investment product. The site says "simulated" wherever money appears because that is exactly what it is. The Lexicon defines each term once, plainly.

Where the platform's costs go

Hosting and development are funded by the founder. Waidrn takes 0% of gifts, pledges, settlements or anything else. The founder's own treasury (the 1-trillion-WAID genesis allocation) decays over time into a mint pool that rewards simulated work; that decay is the only "tax" in the system, and it is a tax on wealth, not on work.

What we will never do

If the platform ever needs revenue, it will be transparent, and it will not come from charging readers for hosted work — that commitment is in the Terms and the Rules.

Creator support and income (v1.4)

Waidrn lets creators publish support links (membership pages, tip jars, shops, sponsorships) and accept simulated WAID support from readers. These are separate from project funding:

Project money: rights-gated

Project funding (pledges and ongoing contributions) is only open for projects whose rights status is original, owned, licensed, or consented. Projects marked fanwork without a licence or rights not established cannot receive project money; their pages offer support the creator and a copyright-holder claim path instead. Pledges keep the milestone escrow and refund rules described in the project pages; ongoing contributions are non-refundable project money and are labelled as such before you give them.

Communities and organizations

Communities and organizations can accept simulated WAID support, forwarded to the owning account with fee 0. They are moderated by their own owners/moderators under the Content Policy and Moderation rules, plus Waidrn's staff for platform-wide issues. Organization verification means a moderator reviewed the evidence provided; it is not an endorsement, certification, or guarantee of conduct. See /docs/moderation.
