How to read on Waidrn
The archive is built for reading: no autoplay, no interstitials between chapters, no account required to read public work. This page is the short tour.
Finding something to read
- Stories is the main shelf. Filter by fandom, freeform tag, rating, warnings, category, completion, word count and language; sort by updated, newest, kudos, hits, comments, bookmarks, words or power. Filters combine with AND — asking for two fandoms means both.
- Fandom pages (
/stories/fandom/{fandom}) gather a fandom's works, chapters, words, most-used tags and its own feed. - Tag pages do the same for one tag, and the tag directory groups fandoms by media category.
- Search is in the header: works, projects, threads, posts and people, grouped by kind.
- Trending and Stats show what is moving lately; your saved presets can make any view your default.
Making the shelf yours
- Like, dislike or mute fandoms and tags in your preferences. The site can hide what you do not want and boost what you do, and the filters apply across browse pages, search and the home feed. You can always turn preferences off for one search.
- Save presets (a filter set plus a sort) and mark one as the default for stories, projects or boards. The default applies when you open a browse page, with a visible chip that says so.
- Direct links to a work are never blocked by your preferences; preferences shape lists, not people.
The reader
- Chapters have previous/next navigation, an entire work view, chapter notes and a reading progress marker.
- Reader preferences (font size, width, spacing and theme) are saved to your account, not just to one device.
- EPUB3 and print are available from every work page: EPUB for e-readers, print CSS for paper or a browser-made PDF.
- Power keeps a chapter alive; if a chapter runs low you may see a notice and a top-up option. Comments and likes are free and never expire.
Keeping track
- Kudos are free and one per reader. Comments are public replies. Bookmarks can be public or private, with a note and a rec. Mark for later is a private reading list.
- Subscribe to a work, series, thread or project to get in-app notifications (and email for the events you choose).
- The library gathers your history, mark-for-later list, bookmarks, subscriptions, follows and story marks; activity shows new chapters and posts from the people and fandoms you follow.
- Collections let you group works, publicly or privately, and share the ones you make public.
Safety and content settings
- Every work declares a rating and content warnings. Mature and Explicit works sit behind an 18+ confirmation gate and are excluded from default listings unless you opt in.
- Report any post, work, chapter, comment, thread, project or profile from the Report control; reports are private and go to a moderator queue. See Moderation for the process.
- Prefer not to see someone? Block them from their profile. Prefer a quieter feed? Mute tags and fandoms in preferences.
Good to know
- Reading is free and there is no paywall, ever. Support links on a creator's profile are optional and external.
- Everything you see in the demo content is labelled demo; the rest is written by the person whose name is on it.
- If something looks wrong, contact us. The fastest route for bad content is always the in-app Report button.
