Waidrn is a town square for people who make things. Four rules keep it standing.

  1. Be kind. Critique the work, not the worker. Reports go to the mods, not the replies.
  2. Tag honestly. Rating, warnings, fandom. If a work needs a warning, give it one — nobody is judging the content, we are judging the label.
  3. Content is rented, commitments are durable. Power pays for storage; posts decay. Receipts and public deliverables do not. Fund what you want to exist.
  4. No scraped fiction, no doxxing, no illegal content. Original work or transformative fanwork published free, and nothing that exists to hurt a real person.

A year ago I wrote in a notebook that I wanted a place where the coin followed what people actually wanted to exist, and where the people doing the work got paid for what they delivered. This is that place, or the first honest attempt at it.

The entire supply sits in my account and decays into the mint pool. That is not a metaphor and it is not a trick: the founder is being spent down, in public, to fund everyone else. Read /economy if you want the exact numbers. Thank you for being here on day one.

Happy launch week. My loved fandoms are Worm and Original Work and my disliked tag is Angst — if you see me in a thread it is because the filters missed you. The preference system is the whole reason I am here; the other sites made me curate by hand. The archive filters are the first ones that have ever respected my never-show-me-this list. Convince me the quest board is not going to eat my evenings as well.

I lurked for a month and then posted a story about a lantern. The workshop here gave me the ending, one honest comment at a time. Grateful is a small word for it. Go and tell someone what their work made you feel. Also, the comment box here is not a battlefield. Nobody has told me to end myself once, which is a new record for a fiction site. The lantern story is finished and the sequel is not, and that is the most honest sentence I have written all week.

Patron check-in: read the terms, backed two quests, stayed through two milestones this week. The money settled exactly as the contract said it would. Whatever the boards say about politics, the ledger is the part that works. Welcome, everybody. My inbox is open if you want a second pair of eyes on a project's terms before you back it; I read contracts for fun and I am not sorry. I have stopped saying when the site gets bigger out loud; it is a bad habit to have in a new place.
