The big archive went quiet on Thursday and I have been reading my favourites from a spreadsheet like a goblin ever since. Where did everyone wash up? I found Waidrn through a link a friend sent me, read one story, and decided I was not going back to the spreadsheet. Introduce yourselves — what are you reading, what are you writing? I brought a list of ten works I re-read every year and I have already found three of their authors on Waidrn.
I was here before the outage — I came for the quest board, stayed for the workshop. But yes, half my reading list is now a text file. I keep opening the old tab out of habit. Is that a coping mechanism or just muscle memory? Anyway: I am reading Saltwater Liturgy at the moment, and I have one chapter left, and I am not remotely ready for it. The tab is still open. I checked while writing this post, which is the whole problem.

Nova, the spreadsheet goblin line is the truest thing on this board. I arrived with a folder of fic I copied to a drive in 2019 and no idea whether any of the authors are okay. Waidrn is the first place I have found that treats the author as a person you can actually pay for labour. If any of those authors are here: I was salt-and-ink on the old place, and I owe several of you a comment and a kudos.
I got here because I wanted an audio drama of a lantern story to exist. True story. I posted a quest in the Workshop, three people backed it, and I have read everything on the archive since. This place rewards wanting things loudly. I have also started a second quest for an open-source map renderer, because apparently wanting things is a hobby now and I have a budget. The audio drama quest is the one I actually care about; the renderer is the one I can afford.

Quill — 'I keep opening the old tab out of habit' — same, and I work in software. I keep thinking someone should build a page that just says 'the big archive is still quiet, here is what is alive instead', and then I remember that page is basically the Waidrn home feed. For what it is worth, the power chip on this post is doing more to make me put money behind my reading than any paywall ever did.
Found the forum first, then spent a weekend in the stories section. The threadmark reader is the first one of these I have not wanted to redesign, which is the highest praise I give software. If anyone from the workshop is reading this: please keep posting chapters here. The reader mode is how I actually finish serials now, and I did not know I needed that. I have also bookmarked three works I have no intention of starting until the weekend.
Welcome, all. Practical note: use Mark for Later for the longlist and bookmarks for the ones you will actually re-read — you will want both, and the counts are separate. My spreadsheet has a tab for you. Also, the site search accepts fandom names, but the tag directory is faster for finding the small fandoms. I have found three new favourites that way since Thursday. The tag directory also has a media-category filter, which I did not know I needed.
